Italy is the third largest market for medical OEMs in Europe. US$13 Billion in revenue is generated annually by over 32,000 employees in the Italian medical OEM sector. This sector comprises 2500 medical device manufacturers and manufacturers of components and sub-assemblies for use in medical devices.

Like the German and French markets that rank ahead of it, Italy is also performing solidly with an impressive medical device market growth of 6-7% per annum. The orthopaedic and cardiovascular device manufacturing sectors are recording even stronger growth of 10%-plus!

Approximately 80% of all Italian companies, active in the medical device manufacturing industry are based in Northern Italy. The Biomedical Valley of Modena, which included the region between the cities of Modena and Mirandola, is home to over 100 medical manufacturers and hence identified as the heart of the Italian medical device manufacturing industry.
