For our site in Cologne we are looking for a R&D Manager (F/M/D) CHEMPARK DORMAGEN Organisational context and job purpose The R&D Manager / Laboratory Manager will be responsible for the maintainance and further development of Acrylate polymers (Luran S) knowledge to help solving quality issues, to drive product development for the future, and ensure on-going competitiveness of current and future ABS products both in commodities and specialties. The environmental context of the role will be the following: General development of plastics industry, new trends (external) Changes in client’s needs and demands (external) Availability of raw materials (external) Cost reduction demands (internal) Focus industries, finally set by board (internal) Approval or disapproval for proposed research projects, finally approved by board (internal) Availability and capacity of lab equipment and manpower to operate it (internal) Responsibilties and accountabilities Planning and conducting research projects for new product development and improvement of existing products and processes Writing patents for patentable findings Writing quarterly reports and final reports at project end Checking competitor patents and giving advice (if needed, giving evidence) Providing assistance to solve issues in production Preparation, maintenance and communication to the sites of know-how on ABS production technologies with focus on chemical aspects Chemically and physically analysis as well as evaluation of competitor and own products Education, experience, skills & knowledge required Education/Experience: The job holder requires a doctor’s degree in chemistry or a related area, profound knowledge in polymer chemistry and material science Planning experimental laboratory work, supervision of laboratory personal and solving scientific problems; experienced in project management, skill in analysis of patents and scientific literature as well as IT competence Competencies: Understanding of the Luran S and Blends product portfolio of Styrolution Understanding of emulsion and mass polymerization technology and acrylate rubber grafting process Understanding the interaction between polymer additives and intermediates Ability to evaluate technical, analytical and polymer-physical results and drawing conclusion for the future work Analysis of patents and scientific literature in the field of polymer and material science Good IT skills (MS Word, Powerpoint, Excel etc. Time management and ability to prioritize work Capability to work out project plans and delegate work Communicating own ideas (internally and externally) Capability of motivating lab personal and co-workers Self-motivation and distinct attention to details and accuracy Scientific curiosity and desire for continuous learning Cost-awareness Appreciation of diverse cultures and regional practices Language skills: German and English are mandatory Line Management Responsibility -N/A- Please apply online!
